Cheek Fillers FAQs

Perth facial fillersCheek fillers are an incredibly effective treatment to regain that youthful appearance. As you age the cheeks and midface appear to lose volume and hollow, leading to a more gaunt, tired appearance, and lead to the development of facial folds. The cheeks that used to be full of volume, flatten as the skin loses collagen and elastin, and the underlying subcutaneous fat and bone resorb. The use of facial fillers can be used to reverse this process and restore the cheeks to how they once were. You can achieve a more younger-looking appearance without needing to get any facial surgery. That means no downtime and no recovery period.

Below we answer the most common questions that we get about Perth facial fillers.

What exactly are cheek fillers?

It comes in the form of an injectable gel that is usually made from hyaluronic acid. These gels also come with an anesthetic so discomfort would be significantly lessened. Its effect is more natural-looking, less invasive, and quicker recovery, than a surgical option.

Who can get cheek fillers?

Generally men and women start to lose volume from their mid 30’s, so this is the age to start considering cheek fillers, but is most commonly done in the over 40’s. Anyone who has noticed loss of volume in their midface is a candidate for cheek fillers. Even younger clients who have lost vast quantities of weight may be suitable candidates. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not have facial fillers.

Is it safe? Yes! The primary ingredient of cheek fillers is hyaluronic acid. It is a substance which is naturally found within human skin. That means your body should not react to it as it is biocompatible with our skin. Risk of allergic reaction to dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid is exceptionally low..

Are the results permanent? No, the results are not permanent. The effect of cheek fillers lasts between 18-24 months Over time, enzymes within our skin will break down the cheek fillers.

How long does it last? Depending on the facial fillers used, it lasts approximately 10 to 12 months for fillers used in the lips, peri-oral, tear troughs, and 18-24 months for the cheek fillers. How long it lasts depends on several factors like the quality of your skin, your metabolism, your lifestyle (eg smoking and sun exposure), and if you are trying to lose weight.

Is it painful? There may be some pain associated with the administration of facial fillers, but this is usually temporary and relatively mild. Pain can be avoided by applying a numbing agent before the treatment. And the Perth facial filler also comes pre-mixed with a numbing agent. Gentle techniques, use of smaller needles, and nerve blocks can also be used to diminish pain.

What preparations should I make before the treatment? It is best to avoid certain drugs and supplements a few days before your treatment. Drugs that should be avoided are aspirin, NSAIDs. Excessive amounts of vitamin E should also be avoided. This is important in order to reduce bruising. Alcohol should also be avoided the night before the procedure, as this also thins the blood increasing the risk of bleeding. You should always discuss first with your doctor before discontinuing any prescribed medications.

What should we expect during the treatment? The treatment is fairly short. It would last about 20 to 30 minutes. Usually, a numbing agent is applied to the area to be treated. After that sets in, the doctor can then proceed with injecting the Perth facial filler.

Is there something that I need to do after the treatment? Absolutely nothing. You can go on with your day like you usually do. Just make sure to avoid strenuous activities.

What happens after the treatment? Right after the Perth facial filler treatment, it is normal for people to experience swelling and bruising. It will subside within a day or two. For some people, swelling may last up to two weeks.

When will I see the results? You will be able to see the results immediately after the facial fillers have been injected. However, you may have to wait for the swelling to subside to be able to see the actual effect. Furthermore, the facial fillers are hydrophilic, that is they attract water and can swell and plump up further if you are well hydrated. The full maturation or “water effect” can take a few weeks.

Do I need to get facial fillers again? Yes. The results are not permanent, as there are enzymes within your skin that will slowly, and naturally break down the product. To maintain the results of your treatments you will need to get further facial fillers when the initial treatment wears off . The amount, type and location of your facial fillers will determine the longevity of the treatment. It will be best to discuss when your next treatment would be with your doctor as treatments vary from patient to patient.

There you have it. Those are just some of the common questions that we usually get when patients inquire about facial fillers. If you still have questions in mind, please feel free to ask our doctor during your consultation.
